What do all of these officers have in common?
A patrol officer stops a speeding vehicle and issues a speeding citation.
A school resource officer receives information about drug use from a high school principle.
An investigator obtains information from a suspect in a crime.
The assistant chief of police talks with a potential applicant about employment.
Answer: Each officer uses basic interview principles to obtain complete and accurate information.
In response to training needs surveys conducted in Alabama since 1987, senior law enforcement officers have identified Basic Interviewing Techniques as their number one training need.
This course will provide officers with a review of basic interview techniques, and ways to improve their interview techniques by using active listening skills. Students will practice using active listening skills in practical exercises.

This seminar is sponsored by AUM's Alabama Crime Prevention Clearinghouse & Training Institute, the Institute for Criminal Justice Education, Inc, Alabama Peace Officers' Association, U.S. Attorney's Office, MDA, and ADECA Law Enforcement Planning/Traffic Safety Division. This training is funded by an ADECA Law Enforcement Planning subgrant #15-DJ-ST-008 awarded to AUM and its Alabama Crime Prevention Clearinghouse. This APOST Certified (6 hour) training seminar will begin at 9:00 a.m. (registration at 8:30), and will end at 4:00 p.m. This seminar is open to law enforcement officers only and there is no cost to attend.
