Basic Web Site Design (HTML and CSS)

This course starts students with the basics of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML) version 1.0 and how they interface with current Internet technologies and then moves into the advanced features of HTML 5 and CSS3 and skills needed to create robust HTML Web Sites.

Students will create HTML pages, test them in several browsers, learn techniques for formatting text, creating lists, establishing links and adding pictures and multimedia files to their web pages. The course includes thorough coverage of Cascading Style Sheets as they are an integral part of website design. Students will learn advanced techniques to use with tables, images and media. We will design and build data-collection forms and set controlling attributes. Students will also learn techniques for adding interactivity to HTML documents using JavaScript.

PREREQUISITE SKILLS: Students should be comfortable working on a PC in a multi-window work environment. Students should also be familiar with the Internet and able to use a Web browser.
